about

Slide Of Hand was a cassette-only release.

"The sound of slide guitar has always held a certain fascination as a unique treasure in American musical culture. From the Delta blues to The Allman Brothers, slide guitar has been a consistent musical component, yet aside from a handful of brilliant instrumentalists, few artists have actually composed specifically for slide guitar. Slide of Hand has an unusually compelling guitar approach that has previously been mostly in the realm of Robert Fripp, with hypnotic, glass-edged sounds and electronic treatments. Here we have an entire release devoted to the slide guitar in its many forms, including dobro, National Steel guitar, E-Bow and both acoustic and electric slide. With support here and there on violin, bass, synth and Weingarten's usual array of delay, sequencing and assorted devices, we have a weird and diverse group of selections, from the quirky "Who Are You Holding For?" to the fast-paced "Oyster Bar Shuffle" and "Pick It Up" to the extended album closer, the lofty "Heaven's Blues." If you enjoy the slide guitar sound, it's time to come out of the closet and slide around with Carl Weingarten on his latest endeavor." --AllMusic
